Over the past decade, I have faced significant hardships that have shaped my personal and professional journey. These include being a medical student in Crimea during Russia's occupation in 2014 and the loss of my father, a respected urologist, the following year. I was a third-year surgical resident in Ukraine when Russia invaded, working there during the war's most challenging phase. Facing these challenges has developed my resilience, mental strength, and ability to embrace and overcome obstacles. I have learned that adaptability, perseverance, and hard work can lead to success even in the most difficult circumstances. My wartime experiences have also clarified my vision for the future, fueling my passion to advance global health and improve surgical care in war-torn and low- to middle-income countries.
