Over the past decade, I have faced significant hardships that have deeply shaped my personal and professional journey. These include being a medical student in Crimea during Russia's occupation in 2014 and the loss of my father, a respected urologist, the following year. Subsequently, I worked as a junior surgical resident in Ukraine during a full-scale war. Facing these challenges has developed my resilience, mental strength, and ability to embrace and overcome obstacles. I have learned that adaptability, perseverance, and hard work can lead to success even in the most difficult circumstances. My wartime experiences have also clarified my vision for the future, fueling my passion to advance global health and improve surgical education. I am committed to using the knowledge and resources I gain in the US to enhance healthcare in Ukraine and other low- and middle-income countries, ultimately aiming to establish robust surgical residency programs that provide up-to-date training and significantly improve surgical care.
