Our opponents argue that animals should have rights because they feel emotions. While it’s true that animals can feel, it’s also true that they are not aware of rules or responsibilities like people are. Humans have rights because we understand these responsibilities. Animals do not understand the same way and cannot follow laws or take care of themselves in human society. Also, we already have animal welfare laws that protect animals from abuse and cruelty. For example, there are laws against hurting pets or using animals in cruel ways in many countries. Giving animals more rights than this would be difficult to manage and could even harm some industries, like farming. So instead of giving animals human rights, we should work on making animal protection laws stronger where they are needed.
