Note that the ISO 9001:2015 standard puts a great deal of emphasis on the requirement for control of externally provided processes, products and services. Typically, through a Purchasing / Procurement / Materials function, Magnaflux must ensure that externally provided processes, products and services conform to requirements. Purchased product is verified before use to ensure that the provided products and services do not adversely affect the ability to consistently deliver conforming products and services to customers. You need to identify how you “verify” conformance. Do you inspect? Do you review COAs? Do you check to see if the product is the correct product and quantity? It is up to you to decide, but make sure you consider the effect that the item has on your product quality because the greater the effect on quality the more critical the verification. If you buy product to sell to your customer, the inspection needed to verify conformance is required, just as it is on product you make. If you order the product and have it shipped directly to your client, you are still responsible to verify conformance. You must identify in your purchasing documents how this verification will take place. Outsourced processes or functions remain within the scope of your QMS and Magnaflux must consider: • the potential impact the products or services have on the ability to consistently meet specified requirements, and, • the effectiveness of the controls applied by the provider. • the controls to be applied to the provider and those applied to the resulting process output.
