As Danny spotted the figure walking in the distance, a strange sensation hit him like a wave. The scent wafting toward him was unlike anything he'd ever experienced. It was rich, intoxicating, and impossible to ignore. His eyes widened, pupils dilating as the overwhelming urge to sink his teeth into that person took over his thoughts. Without even realizing it, he started moving toward them, the magnetic pull of their blood so strong that it drowned out everything else. His heartbeat quickened, his hunger flaring to new, uncontrollable levels. But before Danny could take another step, Alex’s voice cut sharply through the haze in his mind. “Not that one, Danny. You’re not ready.” The command was firm but calm, a lifeline to grasp onto as the primal part of Danny screamed at him to ignore it and go after the person anyway. The scent was overpowering, swirling around him, filling his senses until he could think of nothing else. He felt his fangs ache, ready to sink into flesh. His whole body moved forward, drawn closer despite Alex's warning. “Danny!” Alex’s voice was louder this time, more urgent, sensing that Danny was losing control. In an instant, before Danny could lunge, Alex appeared beside him, moving faster than Danny’s eyes could follow. Grabbing his arm in a vice-like grip, Alex used his vampire speed to pull Danny away from the street and into the shadows. The world blurred for a moment, and when it stopped, they were several blocks away, hidden from view. Breathing heavily, Danny stumbled, the scent of that blood still lingering in his nostrils, teasing him, taunting him. He braced himself against a wall, trying to catch his breath, his hands shaking as the hunger still clawed at him from the inside. “What... what was that?” Danny managed to say between breaths, his voice a mixture of fear and frustration. Alex stepped in front of him, his expression serious, though a hint of concern flashed in his eyes. “That was a lesson in control. That person… their blood is potent, and it would’ve been too much for you to handle. You would’ve lost yourself.” Danny clenched his fists, the hunger still gnawing at him but starting to fade as he focused on Alex’s words. “But... it was so strong. I’ve never felt anything like that before.” “You will again,” Alex said evenly, his gaze steady. “But not tonight. You’re still new to this. Feeding off someone with that kind of blood—someone who would resonate with you—would’ve pushed you past your limits. You need time to learn control before you can handle something like that.” Danny took a deep breath, his thoughts racing. “So what now? I still have to feed.” Alex gave him a nod, his tone softening. “We’ll find someone else, someone whose blood won’t overwhelm you. But remember, Danny, this is all part of learning. Don’t rush it.” Danny’s frustration simmered, but deep down, he knew Alex was right. He couldn’t afford to lose control, especially not tonight.
